ParticipantHi all
An elderly friend has a Panasonic NR-B29SW2
Although it is supposed to be frost free, it recently started building up ice in the freezer section and the fridge part is too cold.
A few weeks ago I used a heat gun to remove 2″ thick ice from the tray under the defrost heater. after that it was fine… until recently.
Any suggestions as to what the problem might be?
Does the tray under the defrost heater have a drain off hole. I did see what looked like it could be a drain off hole but the hole wasn’t actually at the very lowest point of the tray which made me think that perhaps it doesn’t drain off.
Thanks in advance.
ps. I used a heat gun because she doesn’t have a spare freezer or fridge to store everything but I appreciate that a 24 hr defrost would have been advisable. I also ran the self diag test and it passed.

KeymasterA full defrost for at least 24 hours is the only way I’m afraid and hope it sorts itself out.

ParticipantThanks Kwatt, I suspected that might be the case and have asked her to do that this weekend before I swing by.
Am I correct in assuming that there should be a drain off point under the defrost heater.
Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.

KeymasterIt’s unclear on the drain point as I’ve hardly any info to work from on that one. 🙁

ParticipantJust an update-
On removing the rear internal heater cover , I found about 18mm of water sitting in the tray under the frost heater. I pushed a bit of wire into the drain pipe and the water drained away into the tray at the back, above the motor.
The end of the hose has a “sleeve” that looks a bit like a squashed/collapsed heat shrink tube that seems to seal itself. Is it possible that the collapsing in on itself is preventing the draining off of the water? It is about 1cm long, I was tempted to cut a tiny bit off the sleeve so that it has less internal surface area to hold itself closed but thought I would defer to your superior knowledge first.
Thanks in advance of a reply.

KeymasterCould just have been a blocked drain and clearing that may well solve it. That end I think ought to be open to allow the water to flow out though.
