Samsung RSDTMH twin cool, I cannot get the fridge lower panel off I have removed the 2 recessed screws is there others ? and the two vents there is a lot of ice behind this and the water bottle is frozen solid so I am thinking that that ice has formed into the shape of the panel and holding it on I intend letting it melt as a hair dryer is not making much differance however advice would be great and what can I expect when its off is the fan in there or is it in the freezer compartment, what thermisters, heaters, and thermal fuses are there and what readings should I expect
    Thanks

    Re: Panel stuck

This is very common on these Fridge Freezers you normally have to take the whole rear panel off starting at the top where the light is, remove the center panel there are two screws holding the panel on, the light and sensor wires all unplug. there are also two screws behind the water bottle. you may not be able to remove the panel without defrosting as you end up breaking the foam insulation. do a continuity check on the thermal fuse and the defrost element and drainage element make sure you disconnect the two elements from the plug as they are piggy backed and will give you a false reading. If the defrost element is open circuit it comes complete with the evaporator assy, but if you are careful you can prise it off and fit it on to the old evaporator plate. ice build up is a none manufacturing fault and I have seen them ice up for no apparent reason even after they have been modified by Samsung. hope this helps Neil

OK so the whole interior plastic has to come out from the fridge compartment ?, when you say the evaporator assembly I am confused as I am mainly a commercial fridge engineer and removing a evap assy to me means a gas recoverery and de-soldering job! surely not ? and do you mean the defrost element or tape is integral with the evap assy looking at what pics I can get the fan seems to be attached to the back panel am I right ??

    Re: Panel stuck

Yes your are right some bright spark at Samsung decided to attach the defrost element directly to the evaporator, So really yes you have to degas, braze and regas. How silly is that. BUT the element is just pinched in place on the frame of the evaporator and you can lever it off and crimp it back on (I have done loads like this) otherwise it starts getting time consuming and expensive. The fan is attached to the back panel and has a problem of ice building up inside and not draining away. there is a mod which is a plate that attaches to the element and touches the aluminium tape on the fan drainage hole on the back panel. I just bend the element out so it makes better contact to the panel. this seems to work. The defrost drainage hole at the bottom or the fridge also has a habit of blocking up with ice even though there is a heater wire in there. if you try clearing this hole it takes a sharp left and if you are poking about in there mind the wire as it can get damaged.

Cheers I have had a scour on the web and I think I may have been given the wrong Mod number seems to be a RSH not a RS I am checking with the customer tomorrow, but thanks for the heads up

    Re: Panel stuck update

Panel came off easilly once thawed out, fan motor a 12volt unit
by the way, was gubbed, as was the foil covered heater on the panel not the L shaped one on the evaporator coil so new panel, which, was saturated on the bottom portion, how can polystyrene absorb water for god sake its used in life jackets, must be a porous variety
