Participantwith budgets getting a bit tighter etc , we are thinking about advising contract cutomers that they will need to cover engineers parking costs ..
rep -care do this with their fixed fee clients ,
does anyone else currenty ask customer for parking fee,s ?? …if so how do you go about it ???
i know you can cost it in to chargeable work , but not so with extended warrantys etc , we are often out of pocket £5-10 per visit in some post codes
i know this isnt a major issue to some co,s who dont cover the citys,
but its becoming a creeping cost to ourselfs , maybe its time for service providers to cost parking in to their rates ..ally

It’s a BIG problem in Glasgow, Ayr, Paisley and some others for us. I’ve been banging on about it for years.
You can’t get parked for free, you can’t get parked close, it all adds to the cost of the job in these areas and in some areas of Glasgow, especially the West End, it’s pretty much resident only parking in some areas. I know you can get the “guest” parking things from the customer but it’s a hassle and still adds more time to these jobs.
Parking in an NCP or whatever can add not only the cost of the parking but a 15-30 minute walk lugging a toolbox to some calls.
It’s even worse in London as some of the London boys will tell you and they’ll also tell you that parking is a bigger problem than the congestion charge a lot of the time.
And, with a VAT hike looming the cost of this and fuel are both set to rise. 😕

Try Parking in London or Brighton, theres little diference ! It adds to the time involved in servicing the call, lugging a tool box a fair distance, returning to the vehicle to collect spare parts, lugging the toolbox back possibly up a coulple of flights if stairs ! It also can cuase stress to the engineer and adds to their working day.
So why an earth shoud’nt this be added to the bill ! Just try and get a solicitor or Vet to call out to you !

With the recent news of w/p’s reducing their rates it’s hard to imagine agents have little choice but to refuse to undertake such calls. Even on a fully chargeable basis the extra time/money spent on a call, especially if a 2nd visit is required, very often renders to job uneconomic from the outset!

I suppose I’m lucky, I’ve never yet paid for parking to do a job. 😉

Me too but for me, it’s a matter of choice as all my work is fully chargeable and I don’t want the hastle of agency work. City/Town centre, double yellow lines and Traffic Wardens for me is a total no no…go away phone somebody else!
But this thread IS about city centre agency work and on that subject….I’m out!

I think it’s a damn good idea. I can hide my bike round the corner and add on a fiver for the ticket. I quite often arrive in a bit of a sweat anyway so I’ll just tell them it was a long walk. 😆
This is no city where I am but I always get people telling me when they book where I can “park my van”, especially in the fishing villages.
