Participanthi,i have a parkinson cowan gas cooker that has a faulty oven lid,i have been told by a gas fitter that when i close the lid it should put out any of the gas burner rings that are on,it doesnt put them out when it is closed though.
the sticker she left on it says faulty F.F.D.
there seems to be a small plastic part on one side of the lid where it should be attached to cooker missing.
can anyone recommend the least expensive place i could get this repaired please.
am in manchester m15 area.
thanks.May 2, 2010 at 6:21 am #318909gandh1

your cheapest option would be to get the gas fitter who sounds like they condemned it, to return and repair it. not many other engineers will go near a condemned gas cooker, its not worth the risk to their reputation for the price a customer is happy pay. if she isnt happy to fix it then there are usually 2 reasopns why, she doesnt feel the cooker is safe enough, or she hasnt the ability to source parts. if its the latter she should be able to know and recommend a colleague who can.
ps supplying model numbers is a massive help…

thanks for the reply, the fitter was one of the workmen who have been fitting new radiators and boilers on our estate.I have now found someone who is going to fix it through a friend so i should get it done soon, wasnt totally sure of the model number, small metal label on the inside says G755 MK-2WH.
not sure if that is right though?
looking at pictures on the web it looks like a SIG 414 or 320,no mention of either of these on mine though.May 2, 2010 at 10:46 pm #318911gandh1

are you sure its a parkinson cowan cos the only g755 i know of is a belling. the fact it says mk 2 makes me think it almost certainly must be a belling because the elux group who own the p/c name dont tend to use “mk1/mk2” etc on their models.
can you list all the info on the metal label? it should have prod no. or pnc if its a p/c appliance

it was the fitter who said she thought it was a parker cowan, the label on the outside on the oven door which may have had the makers name has been eroded due to cleaning i think, the registration number which is on the inside bottom right has the serial number 03 104352 08.
i think you are right, when i googled G755 MK-2 WH yesterday most of the results mentioned BELLING.
mine looks exactly like the one on this site http://www.comparestoreprices.co.uk/gas … g755an.asp
so i think the fitter who told me they thought it was a parker cowan was guessing.
thanks for thr reply and info.May 3, 2010 at 5:29 pm #318913gandh1

pretty certain then if it was a belling then that model was produced in turkey for them by beko
before you order parts for it come on here because we could help you save some money 🙂

have also read that this belling model was subjected to a product recall due to a fault with the grill, you can read about it here http://www.iaai-uk-productrecall.org.uk … all_ID=483
hope that i can get this sorted for free as this website claims,as it was given to me i dont have any sort of reciept, gaurantee or any other documentation.
do you know what parts i may actually need for the lid problem?apart from missing the right hand lid cap where it is attached to the cooker by hinge,is it something to do with the cut off valve?lid doesnt touch it when i close it,is this what is stopping it extinguishing gas burners?
thanks.May 3, 2010 at 6:13 pm #318915gandh1
ParticipantRe: parkinson cowan gas cooker faulty lid
iirc the issue is based on a modification to the top oven door seal to allow carbon monoxide not to build up in substantial amounts, because an auto cut-off valve that operates when the door is shut was not fitted to that model.
the recall has nothing to do with the cut off valve that the lid operates, so you wouldnt normally get that repair for free (you could try and blag it tho by saying its always been like that since you got the cooker)
im not a gas safe engineer so ive never worked on the lid mechanisms, so cant say how it should or shouldnt operate. but i would be tempted to get a second opinion before going any further, and if your entitled to the free mod on the grill for the cooker, then id get the engineer who visits opinion on it.

John I suspect the plastic cap that fits on top of the valve so allowing the lid to operate valve is missing, very common as they can come off easily, part number you need will be 082614212, call Stoves/Belling direct on 0845 408 0050 🙂

thanks for the reply jonah, the cap is still on ,the lid doesnt come into contact with it though when lid is closed,so unsure if that is the main problem.should that valve cap be able to be pushed in by the lid?it doesnt see to go in even when i press onto it with my finger, should it do?
i will try and get a picture uploaded so you can see it properley later.
thanks again.May 9, 2010 at 10:36 am #318918Jonah

In that case John you will need a new lid valve fitted, you cannot do this unless Gas Registered so I cannot give you any further help other than call Stoves direct for a service call if you cannot find someone local to do it
