Hi, I ordered a new thermostat for my Smeg UK80MFX and think I’ve been sent the wrong part.
Instead of part number 818730269 I was sent 818731128. This thermostat looks identical to the picture of 818730269, but when mounted on the oven, the off position is at 9 o’clock instead of 12 o’clock.
Now, by drilling new screw holes in the oven body I could mount it correctly, but I’m worried that if the part is wrong it may not be suitable for this oven (grill function, correct temperature, etc); and may even be dangerous.
Also, written on the 818731128 thermostat is the temperature 275c, whilst the original faulty part has 290 written on it. And, the wire to the sensor doesn’t appear long enough. I don’t want to straighten out the coil in case I have to return the part?
Does anyone know the difference between the parts 818730269 and 818731128? If it’s only the way they mount to the oven I’m quite happy to drill the holes. Otherwise, I will return part 818731128.
I’ve already waited a month for it to be delivered from Italy so would prefer no more delays.
    Thanks

818730269 is the correct part number – it doesn’t appear to have been superceded to a new one.

    Hi dazza,

Where did you buy it from as it wasn’t from us since we have a 3-5 day lead time on the original part number?

So far as I can see the OPN is still available, we still list it here.

It does sound like you’ve been sent the wrong one though.

Thanks, they have now sent me another part, but it’s 818731179, which I think is for the later model UK80MFX (after 2003). My oven is the 2000 model. Can I still use this part or is it only compatible with the newer models? Cheers

I don’t think you can, no.

If memory serves the position of the spindle is different although there may be a slight modification to make it fit. I’d suggest you go back to wherever you bought it and get them to give you technical support.

If I can make the modifications to fit this part, will it function in the same way and safely?
Will the temperature increments be the same and will the grill function at max temperature?
This Smeg oven is costing a small fortune in spare parts, so I went for the cheapest website, but this has backfired on me in lost time and hassle. I have call them and they are certain this part is compatible.
    Thanks for your time. 🙂

According to Smeg that thermostat is not listed as fitting a UK80MFX.

818730269 is the original part number on the UK80MFX-A, which should be the initial version of that cooker. 818731128 is listed as an alternative number although, from what I can see in the service bulletins, you may need a new mounting plate to fit that one. Either that or you’re drilling holes in the cooker as the mounting points will be 180Ëš out.

There’s a couple of bulletins about it that say basically the above.

    I still haven’t returned 818731128.
Do you know if 818731128 is identical to the correct part 818730269, except the mounting is 180Ëšdifferent? It’s no problem for me to drill new holes.
What worries me is that it’s safe to use and that the temperature increments are the same and the grill will work when turned to max. Also that the wire connecting to the sensor is long enough.
    Also,
Part 818731179 arrived in the post this morning. If it’s wrong I will return it immediately, but it is listed on some web sites as the later replacement for 818730269.

I would like to have a working oven for Easter, which means using 818731128 or 818731179.
    Thanks for your help.
