How long do you give of a guarantee on parts that you fit to an appliance, i’ve had a problem with an inner door that i fitted on an electrolux oven, you know the story the inner door glass is coming from the metal at the factory silicone sealing, i told the lady that this problem would have arisen from her resting something on glass section of door when it is open, she insists this hasn’t happened, now 3 months after fitting inner door, she says new one is starting to show problems at glass sealing, is this just duff silicone & have i any chance of getting part replced by my supplier, i think not?

I have to stand over my work & replace it for her, but this could be a constant problem.

    Re: Parts Guarantee

    An interesting one this is.

By the letter of the law you have the same rights as a customer IIRC therefore if the part is faulty then you can return it for replacement. Getting that replacement from a distributor or a manufacturer is a whole other ball game as we all know only too well as they seem to make it as difficult as possible. 😕

Zanussi used to take the line that once a replacement machine or spare had passed beyond the 12 months from date of purchase, NOT the date of exchange or replacement then the warranty had expired. The reason being that you could go on ad infinitum if you did not take that line.

Tricky one I’m afraid and really you should discuss with the parts reseller or manufacturer and see if they will be reasonable about it.

We buy the Servisol version which is part number SERSIL1 from Connect, it’s also available from Seme.

We never have any problems with this either, solid as a rock for years 😉

    Re: Parts Guarantee

I brought this subject up at the last meeting and got a very grin and bear it response. Its not my fault that a part fitted fails 11 months later and the quality of most stuff these days probably will fail. Yet we have to, or do anyway, offer a 12 months warranty on our work. Although I am happy to warranty the labour for that ,long, parts are something else and DASA/whoever code of practise or not, I am considering cutting that to, at the most, 6 months.

    Re: Parts Guarantee

My view has always been to offer a 12 month guarantee as it raises our level of service above our competitors and gives the customer faith in the work we carry out.

In most cases the wholsalers and manufacturers we deal with are no problem at all with returning faulty parts within the guarantee period.

This of course only applies to chargeable work where the margin we make on spares and the general service/labour charges take in to account the odd failure.

Contract work is another matter and is/has been discussed before and no doubt will be again 😉

    Dave.
