Participantis their a need for UKW members to have a helpline, where members can phone up a UKW helpline whilst at a customers property to find out parts no,s or to receive technical knowledge on the applaince..
the idea behind this is to supply the engineer with (realtime knowledge), which can lead to.
1. greater chance of getting job, as customer will have price for part etc.
2.engineer wont have to flaff about on an unknown product??
3.reinforce customer confidence in local independants, through (real time knowledge).
….ps . i think we would need to subscribe to this

Very hard to do given the range of appliances that we encounter and likely expensive to have people available all the time on the phone.
Forums are far cheaper. 😉

yeh apprieciate the expense side of things, and as you say forums are cheaper,
i have edited my post to say helpline would have to be subscribed to,
would it outway the costs of having all the manu,s disks etc,
cheers ally..
i think its a great P.R. exercise demonstrating the power of a UKW realtime knowledge base..April 17, 2006 at 8:08 pm #173252bobokines

Many of the answers are already there.
Many of the questions answered on these forums have been asked… and answered before.
I have often used the search facility on the site… from the customer’s house… on my laptop or my PDA telephone. If the answer is not there then it only needs a question posted on the forum and there is normally an answer within a few hours.
The customers can not expect much better that from an independant engineer! They would not get that service from many manufacuturer’s service networks.
Hats off to UKW … to coin a phrase.

It would be really good if all the info on the various manufacturers DVD’s etc could be made available from a central point. I know this idea has been kicked around before but it would be invaluable especially to most of the one man business who can in no way justify the extortionate prices charged for this info. It would not be so bad if you could keep what you have paid for, but to add more insult they time limit the disks.
I think that you guys that are so willing to share this info that you have paid for are brilliant, Poor old Dave seems to do spend most of his time looking up part numbers for people but never seems to complain. Personally i have received several service manuals off generous members who offered them freely when i was in need.
It does seem unfair though and if there was some way that we could share the cost of making this info available to all it would be a really good addition to the site.
