The concensus was that you don’t have to do a training course, but you have more credibility if you can produce a certificate if required.

    Re: PAT TESTING ???

if you are going to get into it and develop it as a main part of your business, i would recommend a “seaward” super nova plus tester. if you can stretch to it i’d also get a test n tag printer. the bar code reader is not that essential. the software at £500 can be obtained much cheaper else where.
this kit saves us loads of time. two people testing using one machine. i.e. one doing visual and one operating the tester can polish off 20 to 25 items per hour. we charge £2 to £2.50 per item. if you are doing computers then your tester must be able to test earth bond at 100mA. if you use a basic 25amp tester you’ll fry the p.c.
the supernova can test a work station WITHOUT having to disconnect all of the peripheral devices. and the i.e.c. lead must be tested as a seperate appliance with it’s own identity.

it can be the most boring work you,ll ever do but we find that two working breaks the monotony and if you do a good job you will know what your future earning are likely to be once you are established.
