ParticipantI attended this tumble dryer two times, every time it’s the module relay board.
Getting rather annoying. On Connect website, they have this module as “not programmed”, whereas Qualtex have the module but did not say programmed and I have bought it from them in the past. I found that they don’t always this in stock locally as it would have to be posted to me.
I can’t think of any reason why the pcb relay need to be programmed, as one would have thought it is already programmed. Besides, how on earth can one program the pcb relay as there are no connecting point for hooking up onto the computer.
would appreciate some advice as there’s a cost and timing factor for me and I would have liked Connect parts rather Qualtex.

It doesn’t need any programming, I would be a little concerned as to why you have had the same fault on the same machine, I don’t change many of these PCB relays TBH, not a common failure area for me.

The fault on the dryer is when you press start, the machine starts and stops when you release the button. I agree that I don’t come across it very often but this dryer, same fault again a year later. Either it was very heavily used or simply poor workmanship of the pcb relays.
I checked for insulation, etc and it passed with flying colours.

Makes you wonder if they are stopping and starting it several times during the cycle?????

Probably, it’s a houseful of two police officers, two teenage boys – very active family who loves the outdoors. The rugby shirts, school uniforms, muddy PE kits etc. They all work hard and play hard. The laundry room is a testimony of what they do in their spare time. I don’t blame them really,
As long they are happy to keep paying for the repair, no skin of my nose.

Yet again, got a phone call from the same client saying the tumble dryer broke, same fault, press and hold the start button it works, if you let go the button it stops.
Surely it can’t be the pub relay to blame, summat in the dryer must have caused to break? Would there be a power surge somewhere?
Just thinking if motor/capacitor/heater being the culprit? Can’t keep on buying new pcb relay and fit them under guarantee, I’ll lose money!

Certainly not beyond the bounds of possibility that the current drawn by the motor and capacitor are causing the premature failure of the start relay.
If I were you I would point out this potential situation to your customer first before carrying out any further repairs. The facts are: It’s come back to bite you, its a crappy Hotpoint dryer well past its ‘use by’ date, it’s down to them if they want to stump up any more dosh to get it running again. 😉

Martin, I think you may be right.
Will talk to them, but first price up new tumble dryers and washing lines with pegs.
If he decides to plump for new dryer or washing line, I will try take the broken machine home with me and carry out an autopsy to determine the cause of the pcb relay blowing.
