I went to a Beko WM7120W washing machine and the start button on the module was broken. I looked on Farnell’s web site for a replacement, but there was so many, I didn’t know which one to order. I then tried to use one from an old pcb, but I couldn’t get one off without damaging it.

Has anyone one ever desoldered a push button without damaging it, and if so, how?

And can anyone tell me which one I could order from Farnell.

Or am I just wasting my time?

    Thanks in advance

    Re: PCB Push Button

Do you mean the tiny touch/ very light push switches found on most pcbs?

I often remove these from old pcbs and resolder onto Hotpoint On/Off and Start/Cancel buttons on the facia pcb’s in particular.

How do I do it, very carefully which given my shaky hands is not easy. One trick I use is to put a small drop of superglue under the replacement switch before resoldering it. 😉

Most of the time on the BEKO ones its the thin, clear plastic light guide/switch plate that breaks.

    Yes

Every time I try to remove one the heat from the soldering iron breaks it, and my solder sucker seems hoplessly too big. I suppose I need more practise

    Thanks for your reply

what kind of soldering iron are you using, try a 15 watt antex iron and you will soon get the hang of it, just remember some of the tactile switches are soldered right through the dual pcb and need to be heated from the reverse of the pcb on which they are mounted.

    Thanks Bob

I have been using just a standard iron. I will follow your suggestion and get one of these
