Phone Scam?

All the marketing calls I seem to get lately sound the same.

“Hello, can I speak to the manager there, please?”

(That means they don’t who they are ringing.)

“We want to put your company out our internet directory, we just need a few details and an email address.”

It sounds pretty harmless enough.

Anyone know whats the deal with these calls, and whether they are harmless?

Yep. They want your email address to make lists then sell them to marketing companies so they can send you 40,000,000,000,000 emails a day trying to sell you v1agra and the like.

I get offered v1agra about 10 times a day…………… who`s been talking?

Does email spam ring any bells ? 😉

They’re just adding you to a database that they can sell to spammers most of the time, tell them go away in a manner of speaking 😯

We had to use the word sensor to try and stop the spammers or at least put them off, that’s one of them, it should just end up as a full stop, it stops anyone clicking on the link which will then take them to a gambling website or an illegal online parmacy.

Pain I know 🙁

Surely phoning people to get their email address to sell wouldn’t pay, they need thousands of email addresses to sell even for £50, surely it wouldn’t pay to get them manually in this way, they’re more likely to have an automated system to pick them out of forums such as this than paying someone and BT to get them via telephone.

Surely phoning thousands of people asking if they want to change their Gas/phone/electricity etc.etc. is probably not cost effective but it happens.

Phone 1 thousand people to get email address Bt cost 1000 X .02 +£20

You`ve then got 1000 email addresses you know are correct and current

Sell it to at least 100 marketing companies = 100 X £50 = £5000!!

Search automatically on the net and how do you know if you`ve got businesses or individuals?
