ParticipantHi all,
If my dishwasher is set to a cold rinse cycle then it completes without errors. But when it gets a certain way through it’s main cycle, it beeps, drains and goes no further. The beep continues until it is reset. This is preventing a decent clean because although the soap dispenser does release, the water never attempts to get hot before the wash stops early.
I would have thought it would have been heated before it attemps to drain the water and all of the detergent away. But perhaps this isn’t a scheduled drain at all? Maybe it’s a forced one due to the water level exceeding it’s max?
Perhaps you know some tricks to help me identify the problem. Maybe constantly scooping some water out during the cycle would allow it to begin heating the water and put my mind at rest that it’s not a problem with the heating element.
I would really appreciate any advice on this.
Thanks,

It’s a Whirlpool in a skirt – count the pattern of the flashing light – ie 1-2-3-4-pause-repeat and report back. We may be able to help you from there.

Thanks for your reply..
The lights don’t seem to have a pattern though. There are 4 lights on the top
1. Rinse
2. 50 degree’s
3. 65 degree’s
4. startWhen I begin the cycle the 65 degree’s and start light are active…
About 20 minutes into the cycle, the light switches from 65 degree’s to Rinse. And the start light flashes until I reset it.

OK, heat problem is a good bet. Generally, if the start lamp is just pulsing away, the NTC (temperature sensor) is faulty. However, it normally manifests itself at the start of the programme, not halfway through. The heater itself can be faulty – “tube-under-tub” type are not very reliable.
HTH, power off if investigating.

Thanks, seems like you’re spot on about the tube heater being unreliable. I’ve had a look and there’s some burn marks on the outside. I’ve tested it and I’m pretty sure it’s dead. Also one of the wire connectors seems to have melted on as I can’t get it off. So maybe I need a replacement wire and connector also.
Can anyone suggest where I’m likely to find a replacement part? If it’s a “whirlpool in a skirt” am I best to look at whirlpool parts?
Also, let me know if replacing the heater tube is only a job for a professional. It seems pretty straight forward on first sight, just a couple of metal crimps either side. Maybe I can just replace them with jubilee clips if I can’t replace them.
All the best,

Heater is p/no 4812 259 28684 – an email to spares@ukwhitegoods.co.uk for prices and ordering. Beware of the crimp on clips – they’re very narrow – a jubilee band replacement will not fit at the motor end. You can try easing the crimp part open and re-using it, but it’s pretty tricky. Problem two is that I can find no listing for any of the connector blocks, so insulated spade terminals is the way to go.
