ParticipantHi all, hope you can help.
I have a Whirlpool ‘Creations’ AWZ121 Tumble Dryer.
Although the dryer seems to be working fine (heat, turning etc) there’s a high-pitched fan like whirring noise as the dryer ‘drys’. When the dryer stops intermittently as part of it’s cycle, the noise also stops, then resumes when the dryer resumes. Sometimes the noise disappears briefly. It isn’t loud, quiter than the dryer itself.
Incidentally had a new belt fitted a week ago, anything to do with that?
Any ideas what it can be?

UPDATEThink the problem lies where the fluff exits. This is my back up dryer (my proper one’s broken also!! 👿 ). It’s in the garage and doesn’t have the venting tube on it, so was able to notice that it had coughed out a noticeable amount of fluff (much more than usual) and a couple of chewed up pieces of shiny black plastic/fabric type stuff out of it’s back-side!!
Has someting got mangled in the guts of the machine or has something come loose and caught up? The black bits aren’t something I recognise as something I’ve put in to dry (could be out of a pocket though?!). 😕
😥 Obviously NOT USING IT right now!!!
Any ideas?

FURTHER UPDATE
Thought I’d post this, you never know, it may help someone else:
Had my regular guy round to hopefully fix my dryer. He wasn’t familiar with the noise, nor recognised the bits it had ‘coughed out’, so he took it apart to see what it could be. 💡 Came to the conclusion that something (possibly from someone’s pocket) had got past the filter and had made it’s way into the fan. He could hear it catching as the dryer changed direction. Anyway as it’s an old machine, we agreed that it wasn’t worth the time + effort (=money!!) dis-assembling what appeared to be a hefty sealed unit, so suggested that I let it run in the hope it would eventually spit out the bits and clear itself. I was worried that it’d blow up, but he said the worst that would happen is that it would sieze up and cut out. As I said before, it was an old machine and would probably be more economically viable to replace.
Anyway after about half an hour of drying, it did clear and it’s now working perfectly.
The best thing, my guy refused to charge me!!!! When I insisted he at least take something for his time, he just said keep recommending him to friends, as I have done several times already.
What a lovely guy. 😀
