May need a replacement for Hotpoint Slimline Deluxe 7805 which started to reset my RCD – had to take it off the kitchen circuit onto open 32A with an extension (just how dangerous is it?) – runs fine now but the thing was made in West Germany (pre 1990?) so I have no idea how old it really is. Washes perfectly though and was (still is) a quality product to be replaced with a similar quality item if it decides to take a permanent leave.

I understand that the quality of home appliances is not what it used to be with current volume production/outsourcing and cost/competition driven industry – that is why I want your expert advice.

Ideally within £400. Not going to purchase any extended warranties. Can be integrated or stand along – does not matter as long as it is not too fiddly to fit a panel/door and no extra bits needed. Quieter the better. Some sort of wash progress indicator is nice to have – I understand that all recent models have it. Salt/rinse aid indicators as well.

Two adults and a kid. Twice/three times per week – always full, always ‘super wash program’. Fairy tabs/fairy dishwasher cleaner tabs once per month-two if that makes any difference.

Was looking at Siemens SF24T258/Bosch SRS45L02GB.

Read reviews on reevo/alatest but seen way too many moronic comments/clearly biased scores – so cannot really rely on those – it looks like people are paid or forced to do a review with no time/desire to do so unless they are clearly some brand-sh***ing idiots.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi

Nothing wrong with either of those two frestanding dishwashers (says he who is in his 40th year in the trade). Both are from the same stable ie BSH, for the little extra in price I would go for the Siemens as it has more flexibility in the baskets and it has the water safe valve on the incoming supply. Along with the 5 year Siemens guarantee to the Bosch`s two it`s a much better buy.

If you go down the route of integrated you will need to purchase a door unit to match existing units and an extra piece of plinth, you will also need to decide if it`s going to be semi integrated (controls showing) or fully integrated (controls hidden along top of machine door) plus the cost
of the appliance will increase as well :rolls: much easier to stick with freestanding.

Thank you for your reply, Don.

I did not know about 5 years warranty offer from Siemens – definitely best b4b then.

And please can you tell me just how mad is using my old Hotpoint while it is earthing? I switch it on and off at the wall through surge protected extension just before/after every wash. Just how probable/rapid the catching fire thing is?

    Thanks again in advance.

I would be pretty reckless to continue using it knowing of this faults existence. Fire, flood and possible electrocution cannot be ruled out from where I’m standing. Not sure if your household insurance company would be too happy at the thought either? 😕

Re: Please recommend a slimline dishwasher.

    Hi again,

Resurrecting this thread because of poor performance of my new dishwasher.

Did not go for Siemens unfortunately as there was an unbeatable price match offer in DSG on Bosch SRS45E32GB for £267 with 2 years warranty (a whole £100 cheaper) so decided it is well worth it.

The thing is – even if it is much nicer looking/programming/etc. its performance is quite disappointing. I have watermarks on all plastics (not on glass) and my tea cups are not as clean as they used to be after a wash in my pre-1990 Hotpoint.

I have tried quite a few times now and it is definitely not a glitch – set it up at two water hardness levels (5 and 7), three rinse aid levels (3,5,6) (rinse aid is same as I used before – or Hotpoint rather worked fine without it), normal Tesco dishwasher salt. Same Fairy tablets i always use. Tried Intensive and Auto programmes and even with water softening off.

Bosch care people asked to screw the salt container tight and use different detergent- WTF?

Is it normal to have poorer results (i mean with all current energy/water saving features) or there is something wrong with this dishwasher? The difference is indeed quite noticeable. Can it be some ‘use this detergent’ scheme? It is really strange and disappointing.

    Please advice.

Re: Please recommend a slimline dishwasher.

Your previous Hotpoint was actually a Bosch anyway. 😉

Poor results, particularly on new appliances are almost always down to usage problems.

Are the tablets you are using a 3 in 1 type?

Separate detergent, rinse aid and salt is by far the best option or you could try using Fairy Active Bursts ( think they have just changed the name of those ).

This is exactly what i am using.

Was advised to remove salt completely (should be the same as water softening off) but that did not work either.
