    Hi
I am in a new place and was installing my W/M – but one of the plumbed water pipes has a flat ended nut that is presumably to prevent water being supplied to a machine. i.e. only one of the feeding pipes is uncovered.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but is it safe to just remove that nut, and assume the water will flow normally, to the W/M?

Also, the pipes are well hidden, and go through a wall, so its not really clear which is hot and which is cold. Is this a problem for fitting to the washing machine, or can hot and cold go in either inlet? Its a Margherita 2000.

The landlord is travelling so not easy to check up with him.

    thanks alot
    Gavin

If you place the hot and cold pipes onto the wrong connections you will fill your machine with hot water when it should be cold.. This will cause the clothes to be washed incorrectly for the programs you choose

run the hot water in the sink and wait until the heat transfers through the pipework ,that should allow you to identify the hot from the cold .
or the sure fire way is once you have connected the hoses put the machine on rinse put your fingers in the soap drawer if the water is hot then the hoses are back to front if cold then bingo .
and yes providing the tap is off you can remove the blanking nut and put the hose on .

thank you very much, great advice for w/m peasants like myself!

I will await the opportunity to sound sage-like in the future, and say.

“Ah well, that’s yer blanking nut” 😆

    cheers
    Gavin
