I’ve posted this on the washing machine board but seeing as I also have a problem with my dishwasher, i thought I would post here too.

I have a dishwasher (Beko 2731FW) which won’t pump water into the machine, within 4 days of this fault occuring, my washing machine (Indesit W113uk)is unable to pump water out and won’t spin.

I’ve taken the machine drain pipes apart and pump filter and flushed all the muck out, but although both seemed to work again initially, once connected up again, the faults returned. Since then, there has been an electrical “burning” smell coming from the washing machine. I think this could be the pump? As the person who helped me clean out the pipes said the solenoid on the pump was very hot when he pulled it out the day before.

I have been offered a second hand bosch washing machine for nothing and I am willing to dump the dishwasher if necessary, but I am worried that if I have a plumbing problem, it’s going to cause me problems with the new WM.

By the way, both the dishwasher and washing machine have completely seperate waste pipes which are not connected in any way. However, the cold water inlet taps are fed to the DW and WM by a T split pipe. I haven’t disconnected the inlet pipes at all.

Is there anything else I should be checking?

    Hi Catherine,

It sounds like a co-incidence that both machines have failed at the same time. If the washing machine is filling you know you have a water supply to the dishwasher as they are fed from the same tap. Unless the fill hose to the dishwasher is kinked; have you pulled it out to check? Diagnosing a no-fill fault on a dishwasher past this point isn’t a do-it-yourself job.

It does sound as if the pump has failed on the washing machine in view of the fact that you have checked the hoses for blockages, but have you checked that nothing’s jamming the pump impeller?

    Geoff
