We are always telling the DIYers to pull the plug before they work on machines. I wished today I had followed this advice myself. It was a Zanussi computerised machine which was not responding to the programme setup buttons. It was locking the door and making a few bleeps and flashing led lights. I started by checking the brushes and tacho magnet, followed by resistance checks on heater, thermistor, pump, valves and on/off switch. I then turned my attention to the main module and was getting the board out of it’s box to inspect for damage. I then realised I was running late so asked customer if I could leave the machine and return later. She agreed to this so I went to pull out the plug, which was switched off but still plugged in. It would not budge and I ended up levering the plug out with a couple of screwdrivers. The live pin stayed in the socket where it had welded itself in. I returned later, fitted a new plug, put the machine back together and it’s now working fine :haier:

I had a similar one last week but with different outcome, freezer not running, switched off plug & proceeded to remove compressor cover, only to be welcomed into the control box with a whacking shock!,
Checked plug was still off, took out plug & put in test plug, only to find that the wonderfully qualified kitchen fitters had wired the plug reverse polarity!, so all i had switched off was the neutral, leaving the machine live, (albeit wired in reverse) probably the reason her 6 week old freezer had killed the compressor!

Each Appliance that we work on is a dangerous preditor who would lke more than anyting else to bite you at the earliest chance its gets !

UNPLUG the machine from the mains, that way it cannot bite you.

If we take any lesson of repairing an appliance let it be this one.
