ParticipantHi,
I have a Prestige PRT295FFCS Fridge freezer. A couple of days ago I noticed that the fridge was warm. Upon checking, the freezer part is fine (-18 degrees) but the fridge was +12 degrees.
I also noticed that the drain hole at the back of the fridge was full of water and wasn’t draining properly.
So, I turned the fridge off overnight and in the morning all the water had drained away and I could pour water down the drain hole and it would come out at the bottom. I turned the fridge back on but it still wouldn’t get cold.
So, I left the fridge turned off all day today again. This evening I have turned the fridge back on and now, a couple of hours later it seems to be working again and is back down to +4 degrees.
So, am I likely yo have permanently fixed the problem or does it sound like there is some sort of intermittent fault?
I have already ordered a new fridge/freezer but it won’t be delivered until next week so I could cancel the order if my old fridge is now going to be OK. However, I don’t want to cancel the order if it’s just going to break again in 2 months.
If it helps, the F/F is described as being a Partial frost free F/F on Comet’s website although there is no mention of frost free or defrosting the fridge in the manual.
So any help, advice or words of wisdom would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

hello bob, it sounds like you’ve got an insulation fault, causing the fridge drain hose to block up.
this happens about 10-12″ down.you’d be better off with your new fridge then 😥
you’ll see the drain hole block up again when the fridge has been on again for a couple of days.
cheers.

Thanks. I assume this isn’t something that can be fixed easily? What would cause an insulation fault? It sounds as though it is something that would have been faulty from day one.
Thanks.

hello bob, the mod referred to involves repositioning the evaporator sensor, but wouldn’t have any bearing at all on the problems you’re experiencing.
as for the insulation fault, it’s unrepairable i’m afraid. it just means that water in the drain hose is freezing up because of an insulation breakdown between the hose and some pipework.
if it had been there from the start, surely you would have noticed the water in your fridge before now?December 4, 2008 at 8:56 am #270511bobmoss

I’ve cancelled my order for a new F/F for now as I had to cancel quickly before they gave me a delivery date.
With a bit of luck it might work for a few more months and give me a bit more time to save up for a new one!
Thanks.
