For those companies amongst us that do contract work I guess the pricing of individual spare parts is done ‘back at base’ so to speak and invoiced from there?

But for those ‘customer chargeable’ ‘pay the engineer on completion’ jobs, how does one price up each spare on their van?

A full van-stock check sheet is one way although with hundreds on the list would be a pain to run through and would constantly need to up-dating. High tech engineers of course have the proverbial laptop notebook or those Psion thingys.

Personally I us the old system Hoover came up with donkeys years ago when most of you guys were just a twinkle in your mothers eye. The Hoover PRICE CODE sheet….Brilliant!

Individually mark each spare with a one letter, one number price code ( A1,A2,A3 etc) and away you go, always bang up to date!

I`m afraid i still use the old van stock check sheet. A bit of a pain to start up but then we save it in a word doc and if a price changes it`s simply updated and printed off.

The computer system in the shop tells us if something we have purchased has changed in price since the last time so if something increases then we up our retail price and if something decreases then well……………

That A1,A2,A3 catagories idea for pricing seems like a great idea.
I used to use a psion 5mx for keeping track of my van stock and calls on the road, but now use a HP jornada 720, but any price changes have to be done manually in excel on the pc, and then syncronised with the Jornada.

It is not that difficult, but then I’ve only got myself to worry about, it would probably be different for some of you guys who have multiple vans to keep track of.
