ParticipantHi all,
I am having troubles with my dishwasher, I think it’s a disguised Whirlpool, number is 854560015869.
It starts normally (or it seems) then starts beeping and finally completely stops. When I open the door, dishes are dry, and light is flashing 7 times.I have read a post from penguin45 that this is related to Flow meter so I did what was instructed, opened the left hand panel, and checked the connection. I assumed Penguin was talking about the connection on the left (with two thin black cables).
Tried again and dishwasher still gives me the trouble.
Just for info, it did that to us 2 days ago but resetting did the trick. Now it just won’t have it.
Can anyone let me know if I was completely wrong in my fixing attempt, and if I should do something else? This dishwasher is only 2 years old…
Thanks a lot in advance for your assistance.April 9, 2009 at 11:34 pm #282854Penguin45

7 flashes is the flow meter failure…….. again. Two possibilities.
1/ Poor connections to the little pcb on the water matrix. The terminals oxidise and don’t connect properly. One chap on the board recently chopped off the connector and soldered the leads directly to the pcb. Worked for him.
2/ Reed switch failure. The water wheel in the matrix has a magnet mounted in it; the flow of water turns the wheel past the reed switch and makes and breaks the circuit. The reed switch can and does fail. You either buy THIS at a fair old cost, or replace the reed switch if you can wield a soldering iron. Maplins, Radio Spares and the like stock suitable components.Penguin45.

Thanks for the help Penguin.
Now looking at the picture of the part you’re suggesting I buy, I am starting to doubt I looked at the right place in the dishwasher…
I went in the door, right behind the place were I put the detergent tablet.
What I saw there does not look like the part I see in the pic.
What I see in the pic reminds me of the left side of the dishwasher, right inside it, there is a hole similar to the one I see in the picture.
Sorry for the confusion, it’s just that I am completely new at this and also I am not a native English speaker, so technical vocabulary is harder to understand. So was I looking at the right place?
(I removed the wood front of the door, removed the metal front panel, then accessed a black part with black cables and a connector. I disconnected, cleared the plug, then connected them back, that’s all I did)Thank you for your patience.

You’ll have to remove the machine form the housing, then the l/h side panel, to see what’s happening,

Penguin I just would like to thank you for your help and assistance, I have removed the Reed switch and replaced it with a new one (CL37S) bought at Maplin along with a soldering kit (my first solder ever!).
All went really well and machine is back on!
Cheers!April 18, 2009 at 11:15 pm #282858Penguin45
