Thanks to this page I’ve managed to diagnose that the reason my electric fan oven has just stopped giving out heat is cos the fan element is bust. I’ve got a Smeg D04SS-5 and have had to take the oven out and remove the back of the case to access the bolts. I’ve taken the nuts off and also the supporting screw on the inside of the oven, but cannot get the element out.

I don’t want to force it too much for fear of breaking something. It *looks* like it is just the two bolts holding it in, I can’t see anything else but it just won’t budge.

Can anyone tell me if this is usually so tricky to get out or whether I might be missing something? It’s really frustrating as I feel I’m close to getting it fixed myself and am now loathe to call someone out when it should only take 5 minutes!

While I’m here I’d like to say a massive Thankyou for all the info on this site, it has helped me out with my washer repairs in the past and now with my cooker.

    Cheers, Andy.

    Re: problem removing fan element

    Hi Andy,

The element should just come off easily once the bolts are removed. One thing to check( and I`ve done this myself) is make sure you have taken the nuts off the fan element and not the grill element. 😆

OK, now I’m quite embarrassed 😳

You were right of course, I had not looked carefully enough. Thanks for the quick reply, it came out easy as anything. Hope I have not wrecked the grill element now with my bashing 🙂
