ParticipantWe have a problem with our Brandt integrated Fridge Freezer C027GWLU which is around 2 years old. It has lost its refrigeration capability (a fairly major fault in a fridge freezer!!!) anyway we’ve had and engineer out and the engineer has told us that there is no refrigerant in the System although he has not been able to find a traceable leak.
He states that he has found movement in the top left hand corner of the wet wall in the fridge and advised that we should unplug the device as there is a risk of the appliance going up in flames.
He mentioned that there was a bulletin released by Brandt stating that this was a known fault with the fridge freezers and giving information on what should be done to prevent this fault from occuring.
Can anyone help/advise/point me in the right direction??

Thanks for that but I’ve already followed that route and they aren’t particularly interested!! In fact we’ve actually bought a replacement fridge freezer now but we are taking the retailer to small claims court as they are also uninterested in our plight. After looking at the evidence we have I could do with a copy of this bulletin to just strengthen up our claim.

ParticipantWhy did brandt and ocean go bust………
Because of the inherited fridge evaporater leaking.
I think it would be a waste of time taking the retailer to small claims why not waste your time better and go and sue the manufactuer as it is there problem not the retailers.

Thanks for your reply.
I’d love to take the manufacturer to court as I agree that it’s not really the retailers problem, although you can argue that the retailer should refuse to sell known poor quality products.
The problem is I am unable to take the manufacturers to court under the trading standards rules, I can only take the person or company who sold me the sub-standard goods to court under the small claims process.
The point is the first fridge freezer I bought for £180 around 9 years ago is still working fine in our utility room, the integrated one I splash out £450 quid on breaks down with an unrepairable fault after 20 months and I’m told it’s out of warranty and the extra cover I’ve taken out on it doesn’t cover beyond economical repair faults. I think i’m within my rights to claim compensation as I’ve had to fork out another £650 for a replacement fridge freezer.
I would be interested to learn more of the ‘fridge evaporator leak’ you mention.
