ParticipantHi. We bought a new washing machine last month and shortly after the purchase we’ve started experiencing some problem. Namely, sometimes when “Mixed” washing cycle ends and we take the clothing out it’s partially dry as if some spots weren’t washed at all(see photo attached). I’ve contacted Indesit/Hotpoint customer service and was told that we may be overloading the drum and that can be the source of the issue. The thing is that the capacity of the drum is 7kg and they say that the limit is for wet clothing and when we put, lets say, 5kg (dry clothing) it’s too much because it will exceed 7kg when gets wet. I’ve spoken to two different advisors and they claim the same. It’s some rubbish for me. Any advice?

It does sound like overloading, 5kg of dry laundry is a huge load and would need ramming into most machines. 🙁
A simple guide when loading is to put the laundry in until you can just fit a clenched fist above the dry laundry, if you are pushing it in with the door or you cannot get a fist above it then you have too much in it, as mentioned in the articles above, poor wash results will ensue.
Nothing much has changed since the Which report found the average wash load in the UK was 2.2 kg. Anything over a 6kg load is pointless IMHO. 😉

I always understood that the rated load was a dry weight cotton
If they have moved the goal posts then that would be a way of confusing a consumer into buying their machine
Looked in the owners manual and it just says 7kg and does not mention dry or wetBut all that said if the clothes can’t move they won’t wash no matter what the loading size says

That’s what I thought Dave. How would I know how much of dry clothing is 7kg of wet clothing. Besides, going further this way, if there are wash cycles with max load of 3.5 kg I understand that all I can wash is 2 t-shirts or 5 socks ?

Those small cycles are normally quick refresh cycles for a few garments
Also delicate fabrics weigh less and need more room to wash without damage so you will never get anywhere near max load

There is a 45 min cycle called “Push and wash” and I’ve weighed the load once and it was around 2.5kg so just 1 kg short of max load and all was fine. That’s actually the cycle we use every day. Still, can’t understand why they advertise it as a 7kg load if you can only put 3-3.5 kg of clothing.

What I tend to tell customers is that anything other than a cotton programme is usual for half a load or less and give them a idea of what a full load is. This help and free advice is usually give free from local independent shops but when you deal with Argos Currys and ao.com there installation teams don’t know how the machine operates and how to demo them and give you the best advice on how they work
