My indesit washer drier wd12S has started making a strange noise when it’s doing it’s spin cycle. this has happened twice now. After the second time the white towels within it came out with jet black polka dots on them, where they had been pressed against the holes on the washer drum side when spinning. The black stuff doesn’t rub off on your fingers and doesn’t smell of oil or burning.
Having removed the back of the washer, the belt was off line from the wheel and had been rubbing causing a layer of fine black dust on the inside surfaces. I guess this is the cause of the black spots. I put the belt back on , but the drum doesn’t seem to spin as easy as it did, having some resistance. Anyone any ideas what it might be? Will it be the bearings? The machine is 5 years old.

Sounds like a bearing problem – good info HERE.

The bearing set to fit your machine is HERE.

This is an exceedingly awkward machine to work on – even getting the pulley off the shaft is a pain.

Power off if you intend to do this yourself.
