Hello everyone I am looking or guidance on what might be the problem with my Miele Fridge Freezer and the best way to remedy it.

The unit is approx 9 years old. About 3 weeks ago the fridge stopped cooling. Tried a defrost and this got it working again for a couple of weeks but recently stopped working again.

I am wondering what the problem might be and whether there is anything else I could try or if an engineer needs to look at it.

In terms of the options for engineers I was also wondering if anyone has any guidance.

Miele themselves have two options – a fixed rate fee of approx £250 for a repair.
Or they call a £130 call out charge for first hour and then any replacement parts would cost extra.
Not sure whether it’s worth the gamble for the latter option.

A local white good man has said he could come and look at it for £90 and he thought it might be a problem with a sensor which would cost approximately £70 to replace.

finally I have also thought it might be best to just replace the whole unit, but I’m loathe to do this unless it’s absolutely essential.

    Any thoughts would be fantastic.

It is possible the fridge evaporator sensor is playing up, if it fails completely a fault code will appear in the temperature setting display, however the cooling is also controlled via a solenoid valve, rare they fail but they can, price for sensor sounds spot on as it comes as a kit due to the old one being foamed into the rear wall of the fridge. If he is familiar with the unit a quick test in service mode and a check on the resistance of the sensors will find the issue, another issue could be the freezer over iced it is worth checking that you have no frost or ice on the rear panel in the freezer on removing the drawers.
