The spark generator no longer seems to be working on our gas hob (I’m pretty sure it’s this as none of the rings generate a spark). Problem is I haven’t a clue how to get inside the hob to change/check it – I’m just assuming that it’s nigh on impossible without lifting the whole hob (I’ve searched in vain for manual for it).

So given I can’t change it, anyone got an idea on the price/cost for getting it changed? I can’t even find a replacement spark generator on the internet.

    Hi ijerram

the model number you have given is of a 60cm build in electric single oven, i presume its the gas hob above this oven that you require the part for. the oven itself may have to be removed to obtain the model number of the hob as its often on a sticker on the hob bottom.

power off first if you are going to have a go yourself.

    Oops so it is.

The gas hob is also Proline, but as you say the number may well be on the bottom (and I have no clue how to lift the hob safely). I don’t suppose the Proline models all use the same spark generator?

“Proline” is just a badge stuck on a range of proprietory machines bought in by Comet – it could be anything.

Easiest access is to slide out the oven; it should be retained to the casing by four screws.

Do not attempt to lift the hob – if fitted correctly it should be “hard-piped” in place and you will cause a gas leak.

We do generally recommend that any work on a gas appliance be carried out by a CORGI registered fitter.
