Proline fridge/freezer

I don’t have the model number yet as the customer phoned me from work, but it’s a proline f/f about 18 months old and the fridge it icing up quite bad from want she say. I was thinking many the door seal or maybe the cabinet is wonky and warm air is getting in?, the freezer is ok so unless it’s a twin compressor and one’s faulty which i would doubt being a cheap brand i’m not sure, any ideas? Thanks

lol, i aint seen a proline for years with twin compressors

probably just stat, unless its a ball of ice, but like u say could be seal on door

Thanks helo_75. If it was a suspect stat then wouldn’t the freezer be playing up to?, having said that though it’s possible that she hasn’t noticed a problem with the freezer because she expects it to be how it is, Cheers. 🙂

well, not always, if stats on full, the freezer just becomes very cold….

worth a check.. turn it down, see if it clicks off, if it doesnt, then is faulty

Well i went to see this f/freezer today, the door seal is fine and the lady has it on the lowest setting possible but it has a two inch block of ice on the back wall of the fridge. She was given the the machine when it was a week old and it been icing up since day one (18 months ago) the stat does turn the compressor off when you turn it to 0 so i suspect it had a faulty stat since new, any one agree or am i missing something? thanks

The customer called me back to this with the same problem which is the fridge is getting to cold, she reckons -15. So before i go back has anyone got any thoughts on this? this is the run down: been too cold ie; icing up (2″ thick on back wall) since she bought it from friends when it was a week old. compressor turns of with stat, fitted new stat, thinking that it was faulty since new, but it’s still too cold. The model number is plc55ssw or plcss55w, my Ss & 5s look the same.

Where is the capillary end located? on the back wall or down a tube?

No pcb just a stat and the end goes down into the back wall via a tube. There was one thing i didn’t recognize which was next to the compressor, it was a white plastic box and inside that was what i would describe as a smaller white box shape object with what look like a little steel dome attached on the side, look a bit like a bike bell and on another side was a dial that needed a screw driver to turn it.

Sounds like your describing the defost timer. This could be the fault, could be overiced, have you checked the normal frost free functions, heater, fan, stat or blockages etc.?
Cant remember this appliance is the evaporator top mounted or behind the freezer back wall?

Checked all those except the timer as i didn’t recognize it (only dealt with the big chunky black units before) like you say that could be the problem in that it’s not advancing onto the defrost cycle, also the evaporator is behind the back wall and it’s a stat not a pcb. Thanks for the help, looks like i might be dealing with a faulty defrost timer. Some people amaze me, this machine has been like this since new (over a year ago) yet they never had it dealt with under warranty?? 😕

Edit: a faulty defrost timer would explain the ice build up but would it also cause the -15 in the fridge?
