Proline PDW081S – live?

Hi guys,

The dishwasher was plugged into a single socket that sat behind it. Above that at normal height is another double socket which runs the kettle. Lot of info I know, but please bear with me.

One day I had the dishwasher on, I was making a drink, and as I had the kettle (metal) in my hand, I touched the sink with the other, and got a bit of a shock. Basically…..

The kettle is fine, no shocks when just kettle plugged in. Touching the dishwasher and sink only gives no shocks, it’s when the dishwasher is on and you touch the kettle and sink together. The dishwasher has been plugged into the above socket and produces same effect. Touching the inside of the dishwasher alone produces no shocks.

Could you please advise whether you think this is the dishwasher or socket, and whether we need to seek out a plumber or electrician. I’ve been zapped 3 times now and we know nothing about electrics, and would value your opinion(s).

most likely the socket, ill try to explain, the earthing on the d/w sounds like its intact but when its on, and should have any earth leakage taken away by the sockets earthing, it only goes up to the next socket making the kettle casing live, thus when you touch the kettle & sink you get zapped, its prob only a small voltage that is being shielded by the paintwork when you touch the d/w, get the electrician out asap & dont use the d/w again till its sorted, if the d/w were to develop a real fault you’d be in for a VERY big shock

thank you for the reply.

It does make sense thank you, especially about the little zap. I imagine it as the energy being released out through the fingers into the sink.

We’re taking your advice and will be getting an electrician.
