There was a rather loud buzzing noise from our upright Freezer which is kept in the garage. It has mostly defrosted the food.

The Red warning light is on solid.

I switched it off, moved it into the kitchen for my husband to check it out. I’ve switched it on again and it is now VERY quiet, I don’t think the compressor is running although it feel warm to the touch and the grill at the back is cold.

This freezer is only about 18 months old – I don’t have the receipt though.

What is the most likely thing to look for?

Listen quietly to it for 5 minutes. Do you hear one/two clicks from the compressor area?

Yes – He says it sounds like a rely switching.

The compressor is faulty. It may be seized/open circuit winding (not cheap) or the relay may be faulty. If you wish it to be diagnosed check out Repairs@ for an engineer.

    Thanks for that.

Presumably if we have to get an engineer to repair it then it will be uneconomical ie will cost more than the £90 (Approx) for a new one.
