Our freezer (Hotpoint upright type) in mid life started to create lots of condensation at low level (lower sides and underside) leaving a puddle on the floor. On investigation the open cell foam insulation was found to be sopping wet. After de-frosting, and turning it back on meant that there was no insulation value in the foam – it was solid ice generating huge amounts of condensation. Hence the puddles. I finally worked out why. Water from the defrost process was getting through panel joints in the lining and soaking the insulation. I left it off for several days, removed some paper covering on the underside and all the water evaporated off. It dried out and now appears to work as it did – no puddles. Oh, and I sealed all the internal joints between side and bottom/rear panels that I could get at including a lip across the bottom front edge where the water poured out when defrosting.
