Purchasing a new Washing Machine

Hi I am trying to buy a replacement Freestanding Washing Machine as my old Samsung WF80F5E0W2W Washing Machine door seal is leaking and there is now rust round the whole of the door seal.

Been looking at LG , AEG and Siemens and I have no idea which of these brands/ machines are any good. Believe Siemens are made by Bosch now and don’t like Bosch machines after a problem with one that leaked.

Please could somebody advise me asap as to whether LG and AEG machines are any good and in particular these two machines listed on John Lewis Website:

This product is currently on offer = Save £70 until 18.01.17 (Was £449 5.8.16-5.10.16) although if the machine is not any good then the discount is worthless

If you don’t think that either of these machines are any good, please can you advise me as to a good make/model instead of these. Thank you 🙂

Well the lg is a washing machine which are pretty good and the aeg is a washer dryer so I don’t know why you are comparing these I personally recommended 1 Bosch model washer other than that beko are good for the price you pay for them.

Forgot to ask about you mentioning that you recommend 1 Bosch model, but you didn’t say what it was in your reply. Please can you tell me what model it is….

Wan24100 the inner working of this model have been the same for over 10 years and are serviceable i.e. most part can be changed but this is only a 6kg load with 1200 spin out of the 2 you have chosen I would probably go with age as it comes with 5 year warranty

I can only buy from John Lewis as my Samsung was under warranty when it went wrong

Am a bit unsure about Bosch machines as had one that rusted and the door seal leaked too

Are LG and AEG machines any good, you mentioned the warranty but am also interested in the machines being good too….. 🙂

Have got £364 to spend on new machine under John Lewis Warranty as Samsung machine that was bought to replace faulty Bosch cost more….

There’s a 5 year warranty on the aeg which are also used buy John Lewis under their own brand LG are also good but out of the2 I would choose age because it has a 5 year if you want a really good qualitymachine look at a meile

Hi I am not sure about Manufacturer’s Warranty’s in general as Samsung had a free 5 year one and it wasn’t very good when looked at the small print as Samsung could replace the Washing Machine with a new or refurbished machine at their discretion and that meant you could end up without a brand new machine as a replacement. On top of this Samsung stated that the warranty ended when the faulty machine was replaced.

In view of this I paid for John Lewis warranty, am getting a brand new washing machine with 2 years warranty and on top of this they are refunding the remainder of the time that my Warranty was paid for which will be 2 years worth of warranty.

Sometimes these so called free warrantys are not any good when you read the small print….

I haven’t read the AEG warranty, but just in case it’s not very good and not worth taking out – please can you advise me as to which is the better machines out of the AEG and LG.

I know that the Miele are good machines but they are too pricey for me and I will be only person using the machine….

if your looking at AEG ( which is owned by electrolux who also owns Zanussi)

look at the John Lewis own brand they are zanussi in disguise so are quite good machines

also agree with Podno1 that bosch range is ok and gives good service

Hi Electrofix Thank you for your reply, am not keen on Bosch machines as the machine I had leaked onto the floor and live in first floor flat so not good.

Also looked at John Lewis machines as know they are made by Zanussi but would like to find out if AEG are a good machine and if they are better made than Zanussi machines….

You mention you’ve had a Bosch that leaked from the seal and rusted, and you’ve had a Samsung that leaked from the seal and rusted. No offence but it sounds like the way you’re using the machine that’s causing these problems and by the rust this would imply you are continuing to use it after it’s started leaking.

Any machine you get could leak from the seal if you tear it or damage it by overloading etc, and using it when it’s leaking is going to rust any machine as well. Load/unload the machine correctly and make sure you don’t overload it, if a seal tears get it fixed and you shouldn’t have these problems.

If you keep discounting entire brands just because a single appliance you had caused a problem you are very quickly going to have nowhere left to go, especially when you seem to have the same problem across multiple brands.
