I have put this in this forum so as not to upset the parties involved.

I have used QER for many years and only became aware of EMW via this forum. Since then I have spread it around a bit, using both firms. In some cases the cost of new is not that much more than a repair but I have generally been happy with their work.
Recently I have become very disallusioned with QER. This has happened over the past month.
    1. WMA module returned as unable to test/trace fault, could not configure module. Sent to EMW who repaired it without any problems.
    2. Hoover Softwave type hybrid timer, QER had this over 3 weeks and told me they had sent it to someone else to try to repair, they eventually returned it as unable to repair, customer cancelled the job so have not yet sent that to EMW.
    3. WM hybrid timer (motor going into instant spin) returned today as unable to repair, I am going to send this one to EMW and if that comes back repaired then I think that QER will be getting very little work from me in the future. 🙁

You probably have’nt heard of Re’lectronics* then Jim? They also repair Modules & Timers very quickly and at reasonable rates. They send stock Modules etc as ‘advanced replacements’ too so you don’t need to send the duff unit to them before you get a replacement in the post (next day usually)…Plus they bill you via monthly account!

Haven’t used QER for ages because they have let me down in similar fashion to your experiences in the past. No such probs with EMW as far as I can say. Tony did get a bit upset with us as you know a while back but he is over that now, so all is tickety boo 🙂

We use both of them and I have the same concerns as both Martin and Jim with QER. However, I have also had problems with EMW and what they deem their guarantee. ie We sent a Indesit w series module in to them with a heater relay fault. Replaced the heater for the customer together with fit of EMW repaired module. Two months down the track the module blew up and they refused to repair it under their guarantee. Left me out of pocket big time. In defence of QER they have a much larger range of product but quality control is abit lax. EMW on the other hand have smaller range but quality seems better especially on timers.

Yup, scrapped a few modules/ jobs this year over unable to repair stufff rom QER and they’ve mostly been WMA and hoover boards.
Had a dust up with EMW a few years ago regarding carriage payments on items that were faulty from them. It was only a glitch but they refused to have me as a customer for a while as I stood my ground.
Re’lectronics (HJM was much easier guys 😉 ) have never let me down when I’ve used them although they were a bit in the dark ages regarding price lists etc. My current one is from 1999 8O.

Heres a thought, I admit that I have no idea of the costs involved, but what about UKWG setting up our own in house module testing and repair facility. Ken, Kevin and the rest of the ‘gang’ don’t have much on their plates ATM. 😉 😀

    Re: QER v EMW

Perhaps a better thought, UKW provides you the modules.

If, you all sent us your spent modules from where you scrap or fit new, so that we can build a stock of “repaired” modules, for exchange use only and only for subscribers(at this time).
We, then can hold a stock, you can feed from it and keep the supply chain running, we add £1.50 per module to pay for the in “guarantee bit” you guys are looking for. It will take time to build the stock, but I change 6 a week at least. So in theory these modules will be £2.00 dearer than say EMW, but with our own guarantee which we all collectively pay for.

That means you get 12 months from our modules no quibbles, as long as you return the old one to keep our stock level.

just a thought you might like to comment on

EMW, QER, Re’lectronics or whoever will have to repair these for UKW won’t they?

Yes Martin, true enough for the moment.

But there are better prices available than from the three you mention and part of this is about investing collectively to stand a guarantee, with no quibbles.
