Ken said in a previous post –
“unless we had the printer I asked for two years or so ago that would have allowed us to do them in-house. ;)”If this printer will get the ID card project off the ground, it has to be purchased ASAP. It will have to be bought with TA funds, so therefore I think this must be our first consideration. The cards can then become a tangible reality and the trade can see progress being made. We have something to offer.
Only slight problem is that we cannot claim the VAT back on these expenses until the finances are sorted.Thoughts, please!!

I have always worked on the principal that the quality and strength of a foundation dictates how strong whatever is built on top of it becomes.Totally agree. But, from another angle ๐ !
I’m going to start from scratch now.I look at starting the WTA in the same way as if I were involved in starting a Business. As lawrence has said, we do need a strong foundation. But for me, before ANYTHING is done, tackled, raised or debated, we should have the following sorted:
Constitution agreed
WTA registered, wherever it needs to be
Accountants agreed and confirmed
Bank Account opened and membership funds transferred
VAT registration number applied for
Logo designed and approved (I know Ken is working on it  )
website designed and looking good for joe public to visit (bottom line is, image goes a long long way, so to be professional, we have to firstly look professional)IMO, the above list should be our first tasks, and only when the above are all ticked, then we can start to build a foundation. Untill then, i see it as building one, whilst leaving holes in it to be filled at a later date….. it weakens the wall!
Would anyone start a Business without having an accountant, or a Bank account sorted? Would you leaflet drop your local area to ‘spread the word’ without a Logo proudly displaying your name?
Can we agree that we spend the next X amount of days getting the above sorted? Then you wouldn’t have to listen to me going on about these ‘less important’ issues ๐ and we can crack on with lining up the ducks in silence ๐October 17, 2007 at 7:39 am #231027kwatt

From an administrative point of view it is far, far easier for accounts and banking to be handled from here. If you want them dealt with elsewhere that’s fine, but it will protract things.
VAT Registration I will have to take advice on as I don’t know the score with a TA/NFP organisation and how it works.

So this meeting thing…. are we doing it?
If we are, I have a thought which may make it a tad more worthwhile. ๐

KeymasterAh good Chris is back from the pub…
So Chris, since you’ve enjoyed a beer or two and probably a couple of hard questions you’ve had to answer on the spot already tonight I’m looking for a favourable answer here before you have a chance to think about it…
Can I put you on the site as being the press contact?
You can of course use the skills of others for this task. ๐

I would attend but where and when (the16/17/nov are out for me )
I would prefer Fri overnight Sat morning .

For starters i’d like the Association to address the witholding of technical info by the manufacturers, i’ve posted before about this showing how in the car industry the legislation makes this illegal and i see no reason why this industry shouldn’t be any different.
I’d also like to see a dedicated WEEE scheme for the association, not a money earner but something to take the hassle away from particularly the sole trader who might not sell a great deal of new machines.
I would want the Association to elect an officer dedicated to dealing with governmental issues such as the environment and taxation, and to form channels of communication with other associations that may be relevant to small businesses. Along with that i’d like to see a dedicated communications/press officer to get the ‘splash’ of publicity that will make our voice be heard.
Big asks maybe but why not?
Intersting how we have most of the bases covered here ,how much do we want to tell Clive that we are doing ? .
other random thoughts on the back of what Clive has saidThe Weee scheme – could we ask John & Ian Dales if they would prepare a policy of some description as they have had many sleepless nights over the WEEE directive .
The press officer -If Chris is up for it then I say go that Penguin… .
the Government link thing -Does that cover what Ade is doing ?

Er, yes – have already fielded one enquiry. I confess I delegated the response……. Telly, you know.
Meeting – give me a bit of notice; nothing particular blocking the calendar at the moment except work.
Chris.
