ParticipantYou are called to a Hotpoint WMS38P that is under 4 years old. It’s located in the back of a garage next to a Hotpoint dryer (same vintage) and chest freezer. It is cold and the atmosphere is damp, no lino on the bare concrete floor either!
You check the machine to find the usual ‘door lock light flashing’ 🙁
You find the module, motor and interlock all covered in moisture. The motor reads 5 megohms on the meter, not looking good huh?
So, my question to you Indesit employed engineers: – Would you honour the 5 year parts warranty and stick a load of new bits in it for labour only?

Had one in the basement of a dry cleaners years ago when I worked for Hotpoo. Early WM range, rotten from the inside out within two years cos of the moisture down there, (also covered in cockroaches and hemmed in with bed mats, people slept down there I kid you not) which was I/G and on a D and G insurance. Both went for the repair no problem even though I’d reported it to both parties on two occasions. :con:
Doesn’t exactly answer your question but you’d think things would have changed…………………………….wouldn’t you?Tony C

On a health and safety aspect, surely the appliance should have been condemned. They shouldn’t of expected you to work on an appliance in an infested room 😯 dirty beggers 👿

The new blue Hotpoint uniform I had back then was black when i came out, I was completely drenched when I came out, as you walked downstairs to it the humidity crawled up yer legs. I had to walk about four blocks back to the van squelching as it was central London.Tony C

I’d’ve thought that unless there are specific instructions obviously noticable to the customer regarding installation siting and relevant conditions then you’d have no choice but to honour the parts guarantee.
Cockroaches! 😡
Have to be firm and say ‘No!’ to working anywhere that has these.

Indeed so I agree, however whilst the installation instructions make reference to connecting it to approved electrical connections and the correct plumbing requirements. They suggest only to “seek professional advice if you want to install your machine in a bath or shower room.” But it makes no mention of unsuitable locations such as outhouses, sheds and garages. 😕
That is why I was hoping for some clarification from an Indesit employee as Hotpoint further add “You may be charged for the service call if a problem with your machine is caused by incorrect installation or misuse”.
We all have come across many such cases of machines installed in unsuitable environments such as this in the past. The older generation of machines that didn’t rely on electronic control systems did cope very well and with no problems. One sniff of dampness with these modern gizmo’s and its Goodnight Vienna!! 😥
But would it be fixed under guarantee eh Indesit?

theres a specific clause in d+g ins that voids it on corrosion so i guess that indesit would come up with the same answer.
