ParticipantHi there, needs some advice please people
brief history – ADP8332 Diplomat integrated dishwasher – leaking into base – FA and F4 and F1 faults intermitently – base cleared – restarts til fills again – ran with base plate off and seen leak at base of sump housing left hand side- fast during parts of cycle -otherwise reasonably slow (around a cup of water after each wash in base).
Engineer visited – seemed vague and puzzled by leak -said never seen it before – tried to “temp seal” the inner sump connections as said small gap around seal – but to no avail – still leaking – so believes the gasket and possibly housing needs renewing. Quoted around £140-150 for job (inc vat and labour) – asked for £40 deposit – as had to order parts specially – rare?
anyway – stil waiting parts – been 10 working days – tells me cos parts rare – and likely arrival friday (this will be about 15 working days total). Needs to remove dw to take to his workshop strip down and try new parts (originally asked me totake it out – I have no idea how to 😳 and he seemed to then reluctantly agree to do it but said takes around an hour?)
So my questions are
sorry to sound cyncial and suspicious – but
1. is this sump housing likely given history? and
2. is the cost etc likely to rise if he suddenly finds it isnt this once begins taking it apart!
3. Shall I just get new one?
4. Worried re £40 deposit – am I obliged to stay with him if he takes longer than Friday to get my parts and fit etc – seems to be a nightmare to get hold of the guy and he sounds really vague.I am only having it fixed as selling home and its on fixtures and fittings and dont want to leave a duff machine (murphys law it does this weeks before move date) so you can appreciate I dont want to spend loads.
I am so worried this guy is taking me for a ride. But I have paid deposit and worried will lose it. Do you normally charge upfront like this??
thanks so much

ParticipantRe: question regarding sump housing please
i,ve had small hair line crack on sump housing before is rare tho probaly not an item that many people keep in stock , 95{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} for any leak in base is relating to the wash pump from my experience.
Some built in machines in my experience can be a nightmare to remove, not because they are built in but because of how the builder as installed them or what the customer has added ie flooring.
To removed machine 2 screws at top of machine and adjust 4 feet if it still don,t come out you might have to remove what ever is blocking it or bust up the feet and if pipes are tight ie waste pipe cold fill and plug may need to be removed if its tight.
If fitted well 5 mins to remove if fitted badly long time to remove, engineer may feel its arkward and don,t want to spend ages getting appliance out.
most engineers will not rip you off
mfi/extracare was 82.25 before we even touched the machine not counting parts -
