Hello, lovely people of UK Whitegoods forum! I have recently bought a Bosch Exxcel WAQ24461GB 1200rpm A+++ Energy Rated 8kg Load Washing Machine for £299 from Hughes (no longer in stock, if anyone’s looking!).

Basically I want to know if I have made a good purchase and not a foolish one! The whole sealed tub debacle scares me a little (of which this model is apparently one, along with other WAQ models); even though I’ve read comments from those who’ve done repairs on sealed drum machines. Even Youtube has some discussion on sealed drum repairs. Does this mean this washer is a goner if any repairs need done? 🙁

I can’t see the Bosch Exxcel WAQ24461GB on the Bosch site at all, is it an old model? Would I assume this is German made? What are the pros and cons of Eastern European made Bosch machines, if any, as this subject seems to have mixed opinions. I’ve seen some say that, regardless where the machine is made, it’s still made to Bosch specifications/quality, others seem less encouraging.

I read on this Forum, somewhere, that Siemens are backing out of the white goods market (I saw the news article, too, saying Siemens have sold their stake to Bosch) http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/appliance … bosch.html ..I suppose we can only speculate what that means for Bosch in the future.

As an aside, I have a two year-old Bosch tabletop dishwasher SKS51E18EU which is “Made In Spain”, to my surprise!

Thanks for any replies, and taking the time to read.

Use this site if your interested in what is made and where. I used to work in Zaragoza. If you zoom in on the photo or visit there you’ll notice no Bosch logos. Balay is Spain version of Hotpoint, got sold to Bosch.

You bought Bosch and seek assurance you bought right. It’s a Bosch, German designed and built, whether that be in Germany, Poland, Spain, Turkey, China, Timbuktu or Teddington it’s still a Bosch.

Sealed drum or a drum that comes to bits is of little concern. All you need to do is use your new Bosch according to the user instructions provided and all will be well.

You bought the cheap end of the Bosch ladder so fingers crossed you’ll get a year or three from it. 😉

Hi lee8, Martin, thanks for the replies 🙂 I added this on a “Deals Forum” and one person commented “One to avoid” when another commented about it having a sealed drum. That got me wondering if I should regret my purchase!

Out-sourcing assembly seems to be quite a common practice: I’ve read on Watches Forums that many “Swiss Made” watches may only be up to a certain {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} assembled in Switzerland, and the complete truth can be a little hazy.

Certain manufacturers, like Seiko, who we would assume to be a trusted Japanese brand, aren’t always assembled there 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} either. But always to “Seiko standards”. I assume this applies to Bosch, maybe.

A clumsy analogy but there you go!

PS: I realise, as you said this is a cheaper Bosch (I thought Exxcel was mid-range?? this was a Black Friday Offer) this may not have that great a life ahead, but someone else on this forum said “excellent machines”, so I’m not sure what to think!

Think positive, you bought ‘middle of the road’ so you could have done far worse especially the junk they palm off on ‘Black Friday’ (heaven spare us from more Americanisms) 🙁

Yeah, the Black Friday news footage of people stampeding for Polaroid and Blaupunkt (cough, Vestel) tellies….I’d rather stare at the wall than have one of those!! 😀

My parents Phillips series 90 bought in the 80s retailed for same price then as today. Build costs have reduced. Brittania cookers, built in UK most people on production line are non UK born, so country of build hardly relevant in fact the UK does not have such a good rep for quality.
