This is a Zanussi Washer/dryer about 4 years old. Please could anyone advise how to access inside the casing of this washer dryer? The cabinet seems to be in 2 halves.

The machine was making an awful racket and now the belt has come off but I can’t get to it, the base is a grey plastic plate. Do I have to remove this first? How do I do that? Do I remove the ‘feet’ (there are two of them on the base at the front). Do I then somehow separate the two halves of the cabinet?

I’d be very grateful for any advice. Thank you.

If the belt has come off after the machine was making a noise then you may have a failure in the main bearings. Replacing the belt would be a complete waste of time. Open the door and push up inside the inner drum, if you can see obvious movement of the inner drum, away from the rubber door seal at the bottom then that confirms a bearing failure. A major repair and not really one for the DIY enthusiast. Access from the back after removing the mains plug is by removal of the rear half of the cabinet.

The base cannot be removed. There are a number of screws around the edge of the cabinet base, including several behind blanking plugs, and a number on the casing surround under the lid. Removal will allow the rear casing to be removed after the usual struggle.

However, you are probably on a hiding to nothing. You say that the machine had become noisy – this will be the bearings failing – when the belt comes off, it usually means that the front bearing has shattered and the drum has dropped out of line. Helluva job…..

    Stay safe, power off…….

Wow what a great site! Thank you both iadom and penguin45 for your incredibly fast responses, I am impressed.

I will check the inner drum around the door seal but from what you say, it looks like I will have to call the cavalry after all. Your advice has probably saved me from wasting heaps of time and patience. Thanks again.

Please could anyone tell me what tool I need to remove the ‘cabinet fixing stoppers’ of this washer/dryer Zanussi WDS1183W so that I can open the cabinet for a look-see? I have a star shaped screwdriver but it is too big. Maybe one of these, but what size? Thank you

Do you mean the 2 white plastic ‘bungs’ on each side of the rear cabinet half?

If so?…..a small screwdriver just to ‘pop’ them out will do the trick. 😉
