ParticipantMy existing bush machine is loud (75db on spin) as it’s only 4/5m away from living room that’s not ideal
I live alone, I do 3 loads most weeks, occasionally 4 always a easycare 40c wash or a 60c wash for towels etc
budget is around £400

Moderatorunless your machine makes more noise now than when it was new you are going to struggle

Participantexisting is rated at 79db, I’m not sure in practice how much I’d notice 5-7db. I think its getting louder, but it maybe more in my mind than anything. I expect I need to look more into the location of the machine, when the kitchen is redone

Moderatorwell bush is a cheap end washer
brand name is owned by argos who source from the cheapest supplierMiele on the other hand is in a whole class of it own. its unlikley you would hear much from it till it spins and then with the increased weight will be a lot quieter. you will probably find your machine will be quietest on concrete floors

ParticipantIt’s on a concrete floor already. The washing machine came with the house, you can tell its not the most refined peice of engineering. Good to know that Miele is likely to be quietest

ModeratorCould the Bush with it’s poor engineering be at the end of it’s life being noisy?
I think anything you replace it with will be better than the Bush!!

ModeratorIt’s okay.
I would still rather have this Miele https://www.johnlewis.com/miele-wea025-freestanding-washing-machine-7kg-load-1400rpm-a-energy-rating-white/p4985108

Participantyeah both have the ecosilence drive (whatever that actually is), but the one with idos is somehow quieter. I do worry that idos might be a bit too clever for its own good

Moderatorecosilence drive is just Miele’s name for the type of motor a lot of maunfacturers are using. this motor has no brushes so has no noise when in use. on a normal motor the bushes make a zzz noise when its turning. it means on the wash programme you may have to look at the machine to know its on
