ParticipantI guess you are not quite sure how to use ‘quotes’ in replying to posts???
This may help: –
So a little bit of home study was in order but I found the following confusing.1/. The link doesn’t say how to “Get the quote” in the first place
However I did know how to quote the previous message from “Quick reply”
2/. The link doesn’t say “Quick reply limits one to quoting the last message only, until in the preview window”
and
3/. “Quick reply is the only method where the quoted person name appears as “Kwatt wrote””
This link does say how to do “Multiple quotes” (from the one post) however I cannot do it by the method outlined
i.e. “…then simply edit the text so you end up something like this”
I believe Ken added quote marks in the example by some other method (which I can do but that is not “simply edit the text”)
I also couldn’t pick up how to do “Quotes from multiple posts” from the link above (as I believe my mentor picked up on in the PM to me).
4/. The link doesn’t say:
“To do quotes from multiple posts”;
Once in the preview window scroll down to a post you wish to quote, highlight that post or part thereof, cut (ctrl c), Scroll up to preview window, paste (ctrl v), edit, highlight, hit “Quote” button, repeat for next posts.
(This method does not insert the quoted persons name as “Kwatt wrote” but merely “Quote”)Conclusions:
A/, I can’t do “Multiple posts” from the one quote as outlined above.
B/. I can do “Quotes from multiple posts” but this is not in the link above or anywhere I can find
I coming at this from:
A layman’s point of view

alexa wrote:1/. The link doesn’t say how to “Get the quote” in the first place
Hit the “Quote” button “when posting a reply”
alexa wrote:2/. The link doesn’t say “Quick reply limits one to quoting the last message only, until in the preview window”
Replying to multiple posts requires adopting the “cut & paste” technique. Adding the “quote=” manually.
alexa wrote:3/. “Quick reply is the only method where the quoted person name appears as “Kwatt wrote””
Correct!

No! but with experience you will realise that any and all of Kens explanations need not only reading carefully, but reading ‘between the lines’ as well, then and only then will the penny drop :martin:

Participant(Other?) appliance engineers (myself included?) aren’t the sharpest tools in the shed and those in the general public looking to do their own repairs aren’t from the top of the Gene Pool either else they’d be paying some other muggins to do the work.
So if I follow Martin’s reply to my letter:Martin wrote:

My point exactly but this is not obviousI thought I’d add this post to point out a major problem I had and possibly others like me had in following the current instructions.
The only problem that “stood out” I might add

So where did the “P45 said” bit come from? I hit “quote”, then cut and pasted (damn good that, it’s take the Mrs weeks to teach me….), then “unquote”.

You don’t need to ‘cut & paste from using a ‘quote’. You simply hit the quote icon on anyones post then remove the bits from that post you don’t want to ensure that the content is retained within the ‘quotes’ (i.e Blah Blah Blah Blah
Not forgetting the all important “Penguin45” after the = in the first set of [ ]
