ParticipantHi guys, got few queries, as title says,
Electra E7316C Retro Fridge freezer by Servis
038077108-0301No response at all, power up to pcb and lamp sort of works (poor condition contacts on holder)
light burnishing of the actual board around R11 resistor *see pics*
doesnt looks to be anything else wrong on this, think its just had a bit of a power surge and cooked itself as the multimeter reckons its o/c ?
found the new module on aws/qtx/connect, but wanted to try fixing it myself first, in case something more serious, and expensive, and probs obsolete has knocked it out? Note this is the FR04.002 module, and seems amazon ebay etc are selling fr04.003 as the current spec module for the part no 651017848.
What id like to know is did they update the board for this reason as the images seem to have a totally different colour R11 resistor, with different bands, and can anyone identify what value it should have, either to replace this one, or whatever the revised spec value should be ?
cheers
Rich

If there is no power then it is probably the capacitor that has failed (1uF from memory) – you don’t seem to have attached the pictures to your post but if do I can give more info on the resistor etc.

Jem, if you mean the power cap, then its only a boost to the compressor, its not in series with the wiring to the board, so in theory, i could start the comp if i re-wired the whole caboodle. besides, the board is getting power to it, but not sending it back out, so poss the sensors have failed but for both fridge and freezer thermistors to fail simultaneously is a bit unlikely. not only that, the browning of the card infers a break in the circuitry of the pcb, probs by the o/c resistor…
If you mean the big greyey blue box-cap on the pcb, then it seems to look okayish, but if you have a pro-method of testing it to be sure, then im all ears 🙂

Hi: Are you sure it’s Brown / Blue / Brown ? if it is then it’s a 160 ohm resistor & looks to be 2 or 3 watt Metal oxide, if you take it to your local Maplins they should be able to match it from stock.
If you want to check the Grey Polyester cap, unsolder it from the circuit & use the Capacitance range on your Multimeter. Have you checked the Diode at the side of R11 to make sure it’s not Leaky or S/C ?May 6, 2013 at 8:13 pm #394562Hollytree_Technical

It is a slightly different design board to the ones I have fixed so far.
Yes the grey polyester X2 class capacitor is almost certain to be dead (even if it isn’t they die after several years so will be on its way out) – I would guess that it is in-line with either line or neutral. I have the luxury of capacitance test on the meter and an LCR that I can use to test them.
I would guess that the resistor is more likely to be a brown black brown (100 Ohm) but couldn’t be sure as the photos are rather blurry.
There are 2 three legged components that I can see on the board – one of them will definately be the TRIAC for the compressor, what’s the other? (could be TRIAC for the light or it could be a voltage regulator). If you can get better photos of both sides of the board then I might be able to help out more.

jem, can you pm me a price if i was to pop it into the post to you for a refurb, as there are obvs other components worth replacing too?
I can get a new board from qtx for a reasonablely decent price, but they are special order, so :/
