ParticipantJust been half listening to this.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00k9hn9
Towards the end there was a bloke with washing machine, cooker, fridge, microwave etc in his kitchen all linked up to the internet so he could fiddle about with how they worked. (Well I’m not exactly sure about that; as I said, I was only half listening.) Something about downloading open source firmware.?
Anyway, I expect it’ll all be available on listen again if anyone is interested. Alternatively, I put a tape in to record it a short while after it began. Just ask if you’d like a copy.

Very interesting.I think it is apparent to us all in this game that some machines are not designed to last .Its a shame its not on iplayer. That picture at the bottom looks like the indesit stock room. 😮

I’ll look into conversion from cassette tape to digital file, it would be useful to be able to do that. I could be gone sometime, though.

Heard some of it,it’s likely to be on iplayer in 24hours or so.
I always think that it’s driven by pricing ie build the machine as cheaply as poss so it naturalyy fails earlier and earlier and that deliberate obsolescence is not the case but after listening to some of it I am probably wrong.
Bought 3 phillips energy saving bulbs with 8 year gaurantee, all failed within 9 months, they asked for origional packing and could I post them back to Holland :rolls:May 15, 2009 at 10:38 am #286774bagman

Just buy three more (you’re going to need to anyway right?) then send the dud ones back in the new packaging… when you get the replacements remember to keep the packaging from them for future use.
Not ideal I know, but if they’re creating hurdles for you, then you may as well find a way around them.

Posting them back to Holland shouldnt have been needed spimps, your contract was with the retailer you bought them from.

We had bought them whilst out from a retailer, home base, probably 20 miles away so it was easier to complain to philips via email.
