    I just moved to the UK and experience a lot of problems with my dishwasher. In spite of using salt and rinsing fluid, I get rainbow staines on steel silverware and all glass. It’s not shiny anymore and I do not know what to do. I have lived in many places around the world but never experienced such a problem. Has anyone had similar experiences?

    Re: rainbow staines

    It’s known as iridescence on glass and is usually caused by;

    Detergents with high levels of disilicate
    Very soft water
    Long cycles at high temperature

    It is permanent damage and cannot be reversed. 🙁

    On your stainless I’d take a guess and say that it was poor quality stainless as it happens on that or it could be a chemical reaction to something on it, the detergent/s or softener used or simply touching another item that is causing a reaction.

    Hope that helps

    Also I have found that ‘liquid’ detergent brings out these symptoms. But ‘ditto’ to kwatt ‘s comments and do use powder or tablets in future if you’re not already 😉
