I have a customer who lives out in the wilds who has for the last sixteen years had an Asko 10604 washing machine with no problems.

He is using collected rainwater (only for washing machine) passed through a Polyprop sediment filter which filters down to 5 microns.

Customer now wants to replace with Miele W3240 and is wondering if the water situation would have any long term detrimental effect on the appliance. I have advised him to carry out the usual monthly service wash, but would this be enough?

All comments and thoughts greatfully recieved.

It should be Don, I can’t see any reason why that wouldn’t work okay.

I see a lot of Miele machines on my travels. i work on the border of N’Ireland & Republic of Ireland, on the southern side in rural parts mains water is not so common & most houses have a borehole pump sunk. The water i find often blackens the soap dispenser & the holes often close over completely, i frequently have to replace soap drawers in them & another part that causes problems is the non-return valve on the outlet trap at the back. The filter that you speak of may get a lot of this dirt out, but i find its a kinda black scum & i suspect its a bacteria or algae formed in untreated water which is not as prevelant in normal domestic washing machines as they use treated water.
