ParticipantHotpoint built-under freezer model 6956 (1997ish). Thermostat is a Ranco with a no. on K54-H1118/001 There is a British company based in Northampton offering a thermostat identified as a Ranco K54H1101001 at what seems to be a very reasonable price. Does anyone know if the two are compatible?? P’se.

It should be OK, as the K54 part denotes the switching temperature, the rest is to do with the length of the capillary.
Out of interest, how much is “very resonable” ?
Dave.

hi,
if your freezer is completely dead it MAY need the stat, however a 97 freezer not cooling correctly is more likely to be a system…and will almost certainly be R134a gas, is the compressor (the motor) warm/hot to touch and is it running? If so might not need the statkevin

Kevin – hello.
The freezer has a ‘fast freeze’ button. When this is pressed the freezer runs and within an hour or so the thermometer will get down to c-18. With the ‘fast freeze’ released the temp gradually rises and we could smell ‘cheesy feet’. (We lost a lot of food). I took out the thermostat and there was no continuity between the live terminal (brown) and either of the other two terminals ( black x2, and blue x1) at room temperature. I have ordered a new ‘stat and am keeping my fingers crossed. Any thoughts will be welcomed.September 8, 2004 at 2:05 pm #116342admin

sounds as though you are ok, if the fast freeze achieved -18 then system is ok.

Kevin – thanks 🙂
😥 The repacement stat from Coolfreeze of Northampton arrived this am. They have supplied the wrong one. Someone cannot read the difference between RAN54 and VC1; and there is only an answering machine. Have you ever had that sinking feeling…………………?
Does anyone know of a reliable supplier of a Ranco K54 stat?

Yep I got it 😀
I don’t quite know what plane I was thinking along there, a K54 is a freezer thermostat, a VC1 or K50 is a fridge with ice box thermostat.
My appologies 😳
You are of course correct, they have supplied the wrong thermostat, they should have supplied a Ranco VS5 or equivelent.

I got loads, PM me your details and I’ll sort one out for you. Measure the length of the capillary and I’ll try and match it with the nearest I have.

The new K54 you supplied is in, fitted ok, and seems to be working fine. Senior Management is pleased, which of course brings a number of fringe benefits. What a pity I saw the Coolfreeze web-site first. I’m still sore about them.
