ParticipantHi Guys,
Just been talking to a friend about my new dishwasher and he threw a funny problem about his one to me.
All I know is it’s a Bosch but from new every now and then when he takes the plates out of the washer they have a kind of wet dog smell to them.
He has tried all types of tablets and does not use rinse aid just what comes with the tablet.
They have tried new plates, cleaning the machine, different tabs, even trying to link it to a food but as I said it has done it from new.
Nothing ties in and he can’t find a pattern to it.
I’m sorry there is no model number but has anyone else had the
problem and know a couple of fixes perhaps? Thanks for any ideas

:hmm: not something I have heard of in over 40 yrs fixing dishwashers. First question and most obvious question is regarding the incoming water supply? Soft water, Hard water or Well water?
Next question, is salt being used in the integrated water softener?
Other thoughts relate to how the machine is coupled to its drain out-flow? And finally, are the 3 drain filters kept scrupulously clean?
That’s enough to get on with…. For now anyway 😉

Does he have a dog? And if so does he rinse it down in the sink? And is the dishwasher connected to the sink waste? Could it be that some dog hairs are getting taken back into the dishwasher via sink waste if drain pipe not positioned higher than waste out let pipe? Just a theory?

Thanks for the replies, it was a new install with new plumbing, New kitchen etc. His water is medium hardness 8 Clarke and he uses salt but no rinse aid as he uses tablets.
Like you say the only thing can be the waste.
He has no animals either, and always uses the 60 wash.
I’ll see what his plumbing looks like, I know it uses the trap adapter not a stand pipe arrangement.

Was the problem there prior to the new kitchen being installed?

Good point I’ll check – why is it sometimes you never think of these simple questions?
