Rangemaster 90 Induction

The grill on our Rangmaster 90 is very hit and miss – sometimes it grills fine and other times it takes an age. The elements both glow when its working so I assume they are fine. I wonder if it is a switch fault or .. I notice on the wiring diagram there is an energy regulator for the grill – could it be this?

all the switches do is turn the elements on and allow you to control them. Since you say the elements are glowing red and from what you say even when it seems to take longer the elements are still glowing red then there is not a fault.
To be able to grill faster the elements would have to get even hotter than red hot and that’s not possible

Hi Dave,
thanks for your response. I perhaps didn’t make it as clear as I might! What happens is the elements glow red initially and then go off – and then come on again…. and so on…. sometimes they are completely off for quite a while and then come on again.

I think you need to understand how energy regulators (simmerstats) work

if you set it to max the element is switched on all the time. if you set it to half then it switches the element on for 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of the time and off for 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}. So that means the element can seem to go on and off

also a lot of these units have a cooling fan is that working normally ?

Hi again,
Perhaps you are not familiar with the Rangmaster 90 grill control, so I will explain. The rotary switch is six position + off. If you turn it to the right it energises half of the grill in three progressive steps. If you turn it the other way it does the same thing but for the whole grill. The problem I have is that when the full hob is on maximum it still cycles between on and off randomly. As this is a grill and not a hob it does not have a simmerstat (but I do know how they work) or a fan.
Is this clear ?

thanks for that and no I did not know they had a stepped control for the grill. But it does bring up a few more questions

I am not sure how they are controlling the grill temperature with this control. normally with stepped controls the control switches between various elements to get a power change but to do that in your case would mean having 2 elements per side. or is it a simmerstat but stepped, I don’t know

As for the fan, I would expect there to be a cooling fan and I would expect the grill to turn it on to keep the controls cool. if this fan does not turn on there will be a safety thermostat that will shut it down till it cools then back on again

I cant check elements used or fans etc without your model but there is not many ways used to control a grill
