ParticipantHi, Any help to identify fault would be appreciated. Fish and chips were being cooked in the bottom oven when it tripped the RCD. I flipped the switches back and expected it to trip again but it didn’t. I check the oven and it was on. After 10mins I checked the fish and chips and the oven was warm but not hot. It looked like the element had stopped working. I let the oven cool and then started some checks. The top oven works fine. It heats and the cooling fan comes on straight away as soon as the knob is turned. With the bottom oven no cooling fan comes on when the knob is turned and it used to, but the oven does start to heat. The circulating fan at the rear does work. I wondered if the cooling fan for the main oven is the cause of the issue and has possiblly stopped working and caused the safety switch to kick in, or is now failing due to the result of something else. Many thanks

ParticipantHi Dave,
Thanks for the quick response.
So I grabbed by multi-meter this morning after watching a few youtube videos. I’ve removed the back of the oven and after removing the wire clips from each of the items and began testing.Everything came back with some resistance except for the fan element. I have removed it and an now looking for a replace.
Unfortunately the element I removed had ‘230v 1800w’ marked on it, but all the replacements for this model appear to be 2300w.
The manual states the max electrical load is 4.2kw. There are 4 elements in this double oven and I’m trying to do the maths to make sure the new replacement part at 2300w will not exceed the max load.
Top Oven Grill Element 1000w
Top Oven Base Element ?w (not sure)
Bottom Oven Fan Element 1800w removed (or 2300w replacement)
Bottom Oven Grill Element ?w (not sure)
I did buy this refurbished 4 years ago and wonder if the shop replaced the fan element but with an 1800w and not the 2300w?October 6, 2021 at 12:10 pm #479236electrofix

ParticipantThanks Dave. Is the 500w difference between the two going to cause any issue? Just thinking the oven has worked on the 1800w fan element for the last four years and I’m now going to put a 2300w replacement in.

Moderatordo you want to double check the serial as there may be more than one model with designation R9044
on rangemaster the first 4 digits give you the model no, so if thats wrong you get nothing or the wrong one

ParticipantThanks for all the info and help Dave.
I think I’m going to go with the 2300w element as I believe the refurb shop I got the oven from probably swapped out the original element with the 1800w I have removed. I also noticed the one I removed only has two loops instead of the three, but I’ll just get the new element and see how it goes.Once again thanks for your help!!!!

Moderatorthe triple elements last longer as the watts per inch is lower due to the extra loop
also if you want reliability fit a quality element . That mean the genuine part or one made by Irca
