I have a Rangemaster Professional+FX which is about 3 years old. It has had an intermittent problem for about a year that has begun to happen almost every time. The oven heats up to temperature, runs for awhile, then shuts off. This is while using on the fan forced functions so I can hear that the fan has stopped, the temperature drops and none of the other oven settings will work either. It will start up again after a “rest” of anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. But the power to the unit is still on, the clock and timer are not at all affected, and the oven has no trouble getting to temperature. And when it’s working, the temperature is constant and accurate (I have an oven thermometer inside).

Can anyone tell me if you have run into this before and what you think is the cause?

I have had a repairman out who couldn’t diagnose the problem because it ran fine while he was here. He said that he thought it was the external thermostat malfunctioning and that I was to call him to order that part if it continued to happen.

However, I am in New Zealand (where they sell this model under the Falcon name) and I am not at all confident that this repair person, the only one available, knows what he is about. I would really appreciate advice from anyone with experience so I can be reasonably comfortable the problem has been diagnosed correctly. Thank you.

It sounds as if it is the cooling fan motor cutting out and the oven tripping out on the safety stat.

Of course ti could be the safety state but I’d think that unlikely.

Thanks for your reply. Is the safety stat the same as the external thermometer? And so what do you think is the correct fix?

No, there is a safety thermostat that will shut the oven down if it overheats and, for some models, a fan initiation thermostat that will start it up or, an electronic board.

We’d need a full model and/or serial to look at it… *IF* we can access tech for another region which is touch and go.

Serial number tag says “Professional +FX Dual Fuel Ser No 9118 116005”

The owner’s manual also says Falcon U110010-03

I don’t know that there are any special modifications for the New Zealand region outside of it being sold as a Falcon (all the brands, including AGA, are sold under that name here).

    Thanks again.
