ParticipantHi, I dont know if anyone can advise me but i wanted to check the following: My Daewoo (purchased Oct 2004) side by side fridge freezer has stopped working (fridge and freezer) an engineer called today and advised me that it seemed ok, fan working etc and all that he could assume was it was out of gas – he advised me that this is not worth doing (his company did not do it anyway) He also thought the display panel on the front may have blown as it showed the freezer to be -19 when it obviously wasnt. Can anyone advise whether I should just buy a new one or is it worth trying to find a company in my area (CM15) that is able to re-gas? Thanks.

Participantif your display is reading -19, then theres no system problem
you’ll probably find your units full of ice
first of all, unplug and defrost for 48 hrs, with both doors open…
try it again, possibly, theres a defrost problem, maybe a sensor is faulty or a defrost heater
the sensor will be over the freezer evaporator, so technically, its working as there will be a build up of ice restricting the flow of air, by blocking or obstructing the fan
try it, u might be surprised

Hi Lisa
You will have to do a 48 hours de-frost as helo_75 recommends, with the door open and a towel to mop up the water 😉August 8, 2007 at 8:53 pm #223823helo_75

Or to put it into context….when the kids make a snowman and it hangs around on the lawn for at least a couple of days after the snow has gone, well you prolly have something the size of a breeze block at about -30c in the back of your freezer 😉

Thanks all for your input. I have now left switched off with doors open for around 20 hours, no sign of any melted ice at all, so am assuming I have another problem! Will stick with it, just in case. Thanks again.
