re whirlpool american top loader 3RLSQ8000JQ

Hi all. Had a call to an Whirlpool 3RLSQ8000JQ American style top loader wash machine. Dead no power found a thermal fuse blown. Tested with megger could find no insulation fault any idea what blows them normally. Joined together machine ran ok, but obviousy want to find fault thanks for any help

they sometimes blow for no apparent reason .

If it’s a thermal fuse it has probably got too hot at some point. This may be due to an iffy cycling stat failing to open when it should or all the crud and muck that’s bunging up the airflow at some point, or people stopping the machine during the programme.

Its a slow blow fuse TL6.3A.

Don’t buy from spares distributor go to Maplins where they cost pennies 😉

Some folks fit TL10.A as replacement but in my experience if its going to blow it will do regardless.

There are thermal fuses in these machines, two in the one I’m working on currently. The plethora of posts mentioning the 6.3A slow blow prompted me to get a pack of 10 and take them with me but there was no such fuse in this 3RLSQ8000.
Incidentally, installing a 10A in place of a blown 6.3A? 8O. Sounds rather an unsafe practice to me.

Thermal fuses are in the dryers , mike, but the op was asking about a top loader washer ( i know, almost identical mode number 😆 )

Hi, the fuse in the top loader is in the top control panel usually taped to the wiring loom. This fuse can blow at any time from what appears to be no reason at all. If its a heavily used machine then I’m not surprised. When I used to work for Whirlpool I asked their tech man why this happens. He said its earth leakage from the motor if its a heavy used machine. He then said its a heavy domestic machine and should have 20mins rest between cycles to let motor cool down. I hope this helps
